Karyn McElroy, LCSW /Supervisor
Karyn McElroy brings over two decades of experience in mental health, social services, and clinical supervision to her role at IMT. She holds an MSW from San Francisco State University and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. Karyn’s clinical background spans a range of settings, including residential treatment, shelters, dual diagnosis programs, and youth and housing initiatives.
She served as Clinical Director at the Bayview Hunters Point Foundation from 2014 to 2020, and as a Clinical Supervisor at the Bayshore Navigation Shelter. Her leadership includes overseeing a 12-bed dual diagnosis facility and managing a 19-bed county shelter for over a decade. Karyn has extensive experience supporting vulnerable populations, especially youth and individuals with co-occurring disorders.
As a supervisor, Karyn is known for her inclusive and collaborative style. She integrates narrative and attachment-based modalities into her work and brings in cognitive behavioral strategies where useful. She is deeply committed to supporting emerging clinicians, often using the DSM-5 in supervision to help supervisees prepare for licensure and deepen their clinical formulation skills.
